I have used this recipe for some time now, without error. It was working
yesterday without error, except for one message.
But I am getting ahead of myself.... Here are the details:
my procmail recipe:
:0c
*!^(From.476TJL*|From.luomat|Return-Path: <luomat>)
*!^Next-Attachment:
*^From *
{
:0fhw
| formail -I "Subject: [*] $SUBJECT"
:0
! 476tjl(_at_)ptsmail(_dot_)ptsem(_dot_)edu
}
From the log file:
From urbanas(_at_)alleg(_dot_)edu Tue Apr 16 12:30:17 1996
Subject: [*] tell foreign currency girl i said hi
Folder: /usr/lib/sendmail -oi 476tjl(_at_)ptsmail(_dot_)ptsem(_dot_)edu 1777
From urbanas(_at_)alleg(_dot_)edu Tue Apr 16 12:30:17 1996
Subject: tell foreign currency girl i said hi
Folder: /usr/spool/mail/luomat 1821
The problem:
The message never appeared in /usr/spool/mail/luomat !
The message was forwarded (as the log said) but it was NOT put into my
local spool.
Is this the one in a million time that mail is "lost"? Would a lockfile
have helped (no other messages came through at this time, not for about 10
minutes on either side)?
Fortunately I had the forwarded copy to read.... But I must admit it was a
littl scary that mail could vanish like that! Still, I've filtered a lot
of mail with procmail, and a lot of mail with that receipe, and this is
the first hint of trouble (and no guarantee that it was procmail's fault).
