| for me, as I do not have new formail. Also as David pointed out - it saves
| a process.
Depending on how you use the variable containing the subject, the -z option
of formail might not be that important. Leading space might get safely
stripped out at execution time.
Still, saving a process tips the balance toward using extraction if you can,
even if you had specifically wanted to preserve leading space (as you could
with
* ^Subject:\/.*
as the extracting condition).
