Doesn't work at all ...

1996-11-18 05:03:45
I already asked "the list" twice, but the answers didn't help. In fact, my
procmail installation doesn't work at all. Well, I know this is no description
of an error ... so read on.

Just reading what a wonderful and powerful tool this is -- well, as I said:
it doesn't work at all!

The effect is:
If I send a mail as myself, everything's o.k.; but if somebody else (or me as
someone else) sends a mail (i.e. "burg" as in my .procmailrc below), he just
gets back his own mail message -- unchanged!! Besides, the log file is _empty_
if someone else mails me, _only_ when _I_ send mails _to_me_ (what for should
I do this?) it has some entries ...

Our configuration:
Locally we have 2 machines, and via NFS every user has one HOME (physically
all on one of the 2 hosts).
This is a subdomain of a large domain for our whole project, where the domain
is located in Vienna. There every user has another HOME (again only one, but
via NFS on every host) which physically is located on a host where ordinary
users can't login. And, to complete the confusion, every user has only one
mailbox (again via NFS).
So I installed procmail on the local host, and performed the tests mentioned
above (only local users as recipients) -- with the results mentioned above ...

See my .forward file:
"|IFS=' '&&p=/users/ohrt/usr/bin/procmail&&test -f $p&&exec $p -Yf-||exit 75
#ohrt"

And my .procmailrc:
--- start .procmailrc ---
# A sample small $HOME/.procmailrc from the procmail(1) man pages
PATH=/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/vue/bin:/users/ohrt/bin:/users/ohrt/usr/bin
MAILDIR=$HOME/Mail
# DEFAULT=$MAILDIR/mbox/default   -- completely optional
LOGFILE=$MAILDIR/from   #recommended
VERBOSE=yes

Finally, the result of "mailstat" (as already mentionend: just in case I send
mails to myself ... otherwise the log file is empty):
procmail: [6326] Mon Nov 18 11:36:21 1996

This was produced with

with an empty mail.

Can anybody help ...?

Cheers,
Diti
