Generalized procmail on local folder?

1997-01-16 14:53:06
I am only two days into using procmail, so please forgive the "newbie"
question.

I am looking for a way to filter out messages from a general "mail-format"
file and place them in the various folders that my procmail rc file
normally filters messages to, leaving unfiltered messages in their
original files.

(The application is a directory full of Eudora messages that I have copied
over from my [soon-to-be-former] Mac, which were filed into folders using
a slightly different scheme than I am planning to use with pine. Rather
than go back to the Mac, write new filters, create new folders, and
transfer the files over again, I'm hoping to be able to do all of this
with a simple procmail script on my linux box.)

I copied the post-processing script out of the procmailex man file, and
tried fiddling with the script-defined originating mail folder, but
discovered after a try or two that unfiltered messages go back to my
"real" INBOX rather than the mail folder I had defined in the script.

Is there an easy way to modify this script so that it treats the
originating folder EXACTLY like it would have treated
/var/spool/mail/eslevitt, keeping unfiltered messages in the
originating folder and moving the others as instructed?

Thanks for any help on this you can offer!
