probs with -ds and digest TOC

1997-02-15 16:41:10
I'm using formail (circa 8/18/94) to split up a digest, but notice that
it seems to exhibit some strange behavior, namely if it sees extra
control/header fields in the (first) digest TOC message, it seems to
create a 'null' message, and loses track of who sent the message.

Here's an example, stripped down from an actual digest that arrived today.

Following is the indicator:

After running it through 'formail -ds < digest.orig > digest.split'

Following is the indicator:

--------------------------- (after split) --------------------------------

Notice that formail created a null message:

Subject: omega-digest Digest V97 #43
To: omega-digest(_at_)eskimo(_dot_)com

------------------------------

and then a message containing the digest's index, but from a fictitious
(foo(_at_)bar) sender, and with no Subject or other fields.

From foo(_at_)bar Sat Feb 15 15:24:33 1997
Content-Type: text/plain
MIME-Version: 1.0

After some fiddling, I found that 'formail -ds' worked just fine,
as long as there was a single line in the digest index, giving
content-type:

Content-Type: text/plain

However, when the MIME-Version line is added:

Content-Type: text/plain
MIME-Version: 1.0

formail loses track, and incorrectly splits the digest.

Has anyone seen this problem in formail? Is it fixed in a more recent
version? Thanks.

and would like to find out the answer to this question as soon as possible.
