I believe you can infer from that that the answer is very close to
"no". 

of the server and pass it to procmail for separating out into
different spool files so that I can read them with emacs (and VM
mail).

If you have Emacs, you could always try to accomplish the same using
Gnus. I'm not sure if there is a VM backend to Gnus, though.
