  If you have Emacs, you could always try to accomplish the same using

  Gnus. I'm not sure if there is a VM backend to Gnus, though.

 For this class off problems you can try to use the unfortunatelly
commercial kit
of softway.{com|fr}
openNT. It gives you a shell, gcc, and sendmail, it is something like
eunice for Unixer of old. It gives a Unix API and Look and Feel for NT.
