problem setting up procmail

I have been trying to install procmail. I did the compiling in the isp's 
/tmp directory and then copied the procmail program into my home directory.

It seems that the isp doesn't read .forward files. Therefore, I tried 
using the "mail -F |/procmail-path" command. This causes mail to be sent 
and a "Subject: " prompt comes up. 

Anyone know if there's some way to run procmail without sending mail?
