help .forward not being read any more.

My ISP is clueless when it comes to sendmail configuration... It seems
that I'm going to have to do the research as to why sendmail no longer
reads my .forward file.

Previously the shell account machine was the mail server. That's no longer
the case.

Could somebody please describe exactly how sendmail 8.8.5 determines
whereto find the .forward file on a host.

I'm guessing my ISP needs the following.

1. A password database that indicates which users home directory is which
ie. from the machine that use to be the mail server.

AND

2. An NFS mount of the users home directories.. Probably an automount?

3. Note: My ISP doesn't use any form of NIS etc.

without the following I cannot see how a mail server on another machine is
going to be able to read a .forward file for a user.

Am I on the right track?

Meanwhile every bit of SPAM is finding it's way through!
