None of my systems have `tac'. From the context of you message, it

Yes, tac is "reverse cat".
Do you have a download URL handy for `tac'?
ftp://prep.ai.mit.edu/pub/gnu/textutils-1.22.tar.gz
If you frequently find you bump into silly limits with your standard
Unix tool programs, you might also want to look at the fileutils and
sh-utils packages.
http://www.gnu.org/ tries to have some sort of introductory material
about the GNU project in general as well as descriptions of the
available packages but it's very incomplete.
I might actually put up the readmes for these packages somewhere near
my home page. I find myself recommending them to people time and
again.
Hope this helps,

(I Cc:ed this back to the list in case other people are interested as
well, and for the tail -r remark.)
