Unreliable Locking Mechanisms

Would compiling procmail with locking mechanisms that fail procmail's
locking tests cause any problems with locking provided that procmail
also uses one or more reliable locking mechanisms?

It may seem to be an odd question, but I have one application that only
accesses mail files locally and others that only access files via NFS.
The two applications don't share any locking mechanisms and procmail won't
use the local application's locking mechanism because it fails over NFS.
