Out of curiosity, when and why did the format of procmail recipes
change? The first example given below is in the old style (I still
have an account that uses the version of procmail that used it), and
the second is the new/current style of recipe. Anybody know the
history behind this?

As an aside: The old syntax is still valid (I meant to comment on this
when I saw the old reply from Tim you're quoting).

The syntax was changed in release 2.90 if I read the HISTORY file
correctly.

The reason is semi-obvious to anyone who had to work with the old
syntax: In the old days, if you didn't have exactly one condition, you
had to tell Procmail the number of condition lines and remember to
keep the number up to date as you updated your recipes.

(Yeah, I was stuck with some very inofficial 2.72 beta release for a
long time at my work account -- with a very suspicious postmaster --
before I took the plunge and installed my own private 3.11pre4.)
