help -- procmail not working

1999-05-09 14:02:22
hi there!

i'm having trouble with procmail -- i've posted this problem to
comp.mail.misc, the procmail mailing list and a few linux newsgroups and
haven't received any replies. i'm desperate. this is really putting a
cramp in my email. i'm begging on my hands and knees for help.

the problem is that when fetchmail fetches mail, the mail gets delivered to
/var/spool/mail/mail instead of /var/spool/mail/root.

the odd thing is that even though i assign a logfile in .procmailrc, no log
file ever gets written.

i'm fairly sure procmail is at least getting invoked, because i've looked
at the last access time (ls -lu) and the time changes when fetchmail gets
around to fetching mail.

this is my .forward:
"|IFS=' ' && p=/usr/bin/procmail/procmail && test -f $p && exec $p -Yf- || exit
75 #root"

and this is my .procmailrc:
HOME=/root
VERBOSE=on
LOGFILE=$MAILDIR/MAILLOG
SENDMAIL=/usr/lib/sendmail
MAILDIR=${HOME}/mail
PROCDIR=/usr/bin/procmail
FORMAIL=/usr/bin/procmail
INCLUDERC=${HOME}/.procmail/rc.maillists

can someone please give guidance?

pete
