Procmail and security in RH6.0

1999-08-24 02:22:56
I've been using a procmail recipe with great success for some
time. Recently I upgraded my system to RedHat 6.0 and everything
went awry. It started with my .forward which had a nice invocation
of procmail ending with the cryptic "exit 75 #mdella" which I never
understood but faithfully copied from somewhere. The new manpage
for procmail was read, and now recommended that .forward should
merely say "|/usr/bin/procmail". (Although the comment above it
still refers to the previous construction.) So I changed it to that,
but got complaints in /var/log/maillog that I was trying to invoke
procmail myself. At this point I guessed that the package was now
set up to invoke procmail automatically and I removed my .forward
altogether, but still keeping my .procmailrc. The recipes still
work well, but the mail that passes through the filter does not
go to my inbox. The relevant recipe read:

:0
$DEFAULT

with $DEFAULT set to my normal mail spool file, but it seems that
the new security settings don't allow me to send something there
in this way. All my non-filtered mail bounced to sender.

At this moment, I've renamed .procmailrc so that I can at least get
my mail. This is not nice.

Any ideas?

Dirk
