Re: Dropped from list?

The procmail lists moved to a new mail server some months ago (mid-May
2000). It occurred while I preparing for a month-long tour of Europe, but
I noticed it upon my return (as all the procmail messages had been
misfiled). Fortunatley, it takes but a few seconds to modify a script and
also to retrieve all the messages from the folder to which they had been
filed.

Mailman (the software now running the list) has a "feature" that will
unsubscribe users if there are bounces, etc. Normally this is A
Good Thing, but Mailman is kind of stupid in keeping track of problem
accounts. The counters that it uses are never reset, so if you have
a bounce once per month and the threshold is set to unsubscribe a user
after 5 messages, you'll be gone in that fifth month.

That's not to say that Mailman is the problem, but this could definitely
account for it. Someday when Mailman matures this will hopefully
be done right (I still view Mailman as being in the prepubescent stages
of development).
