I originally posted this on .comp.unix.admin and one of the folks there
suggested procmail would work for this application. This might be some sort of
autoresponder. If so, would someone just point me to a link or two to get
started. If not, any suggestions on an email document server?
Thanks for your help.

My original post:
I'm looking for an Open Source system that would mail out a formatted email
message to a list of users. The email would contain a list of article
summaries, along with a unique identifier, such as
"[Document #123456 ( )]'. (This email would be made up manually by an operator
and wouldn't be composed automatically by the system.) The recipient could just
reply to the message and put an "X" in between the two ( ) to indicate that
they wanted the document. When the system received such an email, it would
automatically send them back the document in the form of an email, possibly
including attachments for images or .pdf files.
I remember old systems for doing ftp and gopher via email. This would be
similar to them.
My agency has many overseas clients in developing countries that have to pay a
lot per minute of connect time, and can't afford to surf and download articles.
We think this system could be used to queue up articles so that the clients
could download them, then read or print them off line.
Any idea if such a system exists? I've called it an "email document server."
Is there another name for such a system?
Thanks for your suggestions.
