That's the easy part. :-) Helps with those lists that do not insert tag
lines at all. But I'd like a generic solution so that I don't have to
write a separate rule for each list. Ratehr I want to have a single rule
and then have a "table" of list addresses and their appropriate tag.
However, I and several others (e.g. Ashley M. Kirchner
<ashley(_at_)pcraft(_dot_)com>
who asking on Wednesday 28 Feb 2001) want an even more generic solution.
Many of the lists I subscribe to already have such tags in the subject
line. I don't want to go adding more and more and more of these tags so a
subject line but would like to normalise them.
For example, I subscribe to several lists to which messages are often
cross posted. Depending upon the copy that someone might reply to the
subject line can end up as
"Subject: [AAAAA] [BBBB] [CCCCC] Blah Blah Blah"
I'd like to change it so that each copy has only the tag for its list. It
becomes a little complicated when "Re: " appears in there. So one might
have
"Subject: [AAAAA] Re: [BBBB] Re: Re: [CCCCC] Re: Blah Blah Blah"
I've even seen messages like this
"Subject: Re: [initialpostiusername(_at_)someinternethost] Re: [AAAA] Purpose
of message"
Ultimately I'd like to end up with a few generic rules that:
1) Insert a tag for the distributing list where there's no tag added by
the list server
2) Normalise the tags so that only the one for the distributing list is
displayed
3) Normalise the "Re:" so that its placement is consistent for all lists
(irrespective of who added the tag)
3a) Normalise the "Re:" so that it's always in English
I get foreign mail with Sv: (from Sweden) and En: (from France or
maybe Germany)
