mail being delivered to two diff places. why??

2001-04-21 15:05:34
i did not setup my e-mail server but the guy who did told all e-mail to go
to /home/mail_spool/ but for some reason it also goes to /var/spool/mail . i
have just added an 18gig drive and moved /home to it in anticipation of many
more users on this e-mail server. i am worried that my /var partition will
fill up and something bad will happen. i don't want the same data going to
two places anyway, that's wasteful.
anyway the guy who set my server up said the there was nothing in my
sendmail config files that was telling the mail to go to both places and
that this was something that would be handled by my procmail anyway. i
cannot find where procmail would be telling mail where to go so i have come
up with other ways to fix the problem but i would really like to know the
right way and just configure my server correctly instead of coming up with
crazy little fixes all over the place (which will give whomever takes my
place fits!)

right now i am thinking of replacing all my files in /var/spool/mail with
symlinks to /dev/null . this seems to work although it creates a
BOGUS.username.4A4 file with the actual symlink and then creates a new file
for the user with nothing in it. is this a stupid fix or does it make sense?

any help or suggestions is appreciated.
