I've never done this personally, but I think this the wrong approach.
Have you tried the following instead? Start with a fresh copy of procmail
3.15.1. Edit src/authenticate.c, uncomment the #define for MAILSPOOLHOME, and
change its value to "/Maildir/". Configure and compile.
Philip is the expert on this stuff, but he hasn't posted to the mailing list
in a month. Has anyone heard from Philip lately?
