Here is an strace of procmail when called from getmail
I have the following option in my getmailrc to call procmail
local = clsmooth(_at_)nc(_dot_)rr(_dot_)com,|/usr/bin/procmail
It is returning -1 to getmail and causing it to abort. I don't know
why or what the -1 return means.

The last line quoted above shows that procmail is exiting with a status
of zero. That getmail is seeing a different exit status would seem to
indicate that there's a bug in getmail, libc, or the kernel, most likely
the former.
