Could someone post a help for me for the following Subj: cleanup:
I'm on a mailing list that generally has lines formatted as follows:
"[XP] Some Subject Line" - evidently the list server prepends an [XP] if
it doesn't see one on incoming messages...
Examples:
[XP] Extreme Reuse - Hazards of a reuse team
RE: [XP] Extreme Reuse - Hazards of a reuse team
BUT someone's client is messing this up at times by sending:
[XP] Re: Extreme Reuse - Hazards of a reuse team
Actually, I shouldn't necessarily blame some client, if they send out a
Re: subj but they pull out the [XP], then this might equally be the list
server seeing a RE: message without an [XP] and prepending the [XP]
itself without considering the Re: for positioning - anyway, I'm not
sure of the source of the problem, but still I'm looking for a solution
at my end because ... this mangled subject results in further messages
showing stuff like:
RE: [XP] Re: Extreme Reuse - Hazards of a reuse team
All of this sort of mangling completely messes up a sort by subject line
as well as being just plain ugly.
I have procmail running for automatic transfer into mail boxes based on
the list(s) received, but have never attempted anything beyond that. I
know procmail can handle this, but don't know what would be the best way
to approach it. We have two issues: in the last case we end up with
two Re: -- but another cleanup would be in the precursor to that case
where the single Re: is misplaced. Any ideas? THANKS!
