Returned mail - Postfix/procmail can't create user output file

2002-02-17 23:59:05
Hi all. I just finished installing Postfix (after uninstalling sendmail)
and configuring it for my home network. I am new to Linux. I am running on
RH 7.2 (2.4.7-10). Postfix 1.1.3-1, and procmail 3.21.

I am getting the following message (see below) when sending mail to all but
one recipient. I am not sure what, if anything is different about that one
user, other than it was first sent mail before I tried to move to Maildir/
style mailboxes which incidentally does not appear to be working. As I send
mail to the successful user (greg) I was expecting a Maildir directory in my
home directory with a file for each subsequent message. That is not
happening. They are still being created in a single file in the
/var/spool/mail directory. I want to have the Maildir format because I
intend to install Courier IMAP next, and it requires Maildir format.

Anyway, frankly I suspect this is more of a Postfix problem than it is a
procmail problem, but thought I would pose the question as well here, in
case anyone can provide some guidance.

Finally, I thought I would offer up that perhaps incorrectly I performed the
rpm installation of Postfix as root. The README files (I guess I forgot to
read them) suggest the creation of a Postfix user. Is this a real problem
now, should I reinstall, or can I correct the permissions. Perhaps this is
related.

Thanks very much.
