With reference to my earlier post, basically what I want to do is to run the
delivery system as any user but root. My various attempts at this have
failed, as the system rc runs as root and their are no "real" users (the
POP3 server runs as an unpriviledged user & authenticates with a db).
I have tried making the system filter, and the mailspool area, owned by the
same user, but this still doesn't work. In fact, having the system filter
owned by anyone other than root then makes every delivery fail with
EX_TEMPFAIL.
I have turned logging on in the rc file, ensured that the log is writable by
the user, but no logs whatsoever result. Clearly this is some sort of
permissions issue, but I have allowed my "popmail" user access to everwhere
it needs: /var/mail/*, /var/log/procmail.log, but *still* no joy.
