Re: POP3 Prxy + Procmail

I guess it just seems strange that for example if I wanted to limit what
site my users go to I can setup a HTTP proxy server like squid and apply a
URL filter fetch to it. In this example you have a man in the middle service
"proxy server" that provides value.

I managed to find this site http://www.fourmilab.ch/annoyance-filter/ that
sounds like it does what I'm looking for but I would still prefer a simpler
proach that uses procmail.

Thanks
Warrick

I had the same though, but fetchmail is a pop mail client, how does this
force the mail through a procmail filter?

The mail is been picked up somehow. Setup linux with sendmail, pickup
all your mail with fetchmail and use procmail.

or better still have them set up as backup mx, and you are the primary
and you control your own destiny.

Why are you asking from a POP3 standpoint? Why not from an SMTP
standpoint? Are you running sendmail? If so, just put your
cookbook on the pop server and when it receives the emails it will
do your filtering......am I missing something here?

Hi Guys,

I'm sorry if this not the correct place to be asking this question,
but I simply can't belive that the solution does not exist, and
noone on my distro list has answered with a good solution.

I am trying to find a solution that alllows me to run a POP3 proxy
internal to my office, and push the mail through a procmail filter
in order to filter out spam and viruses. I have found a couple
solution that allow various users on a box to do something like
this, but realistically my users are alll using $MS MAU's like
outlook and outlook express.

Is there a simple solution out there that will allow me to setup a
linux box as a POP3 proxy, have all my users use that box as thier
POP3 server ... have it relay the requests and allow me to write
procamail rulues to filter out spam ?

Thanks
