Re: Stricter file permission message

Follow up my post. Bad form yes but I did see the error of my ways. Permissions were only correct after procmail had been there. Thanks anyway; pretty sure it is solved.

I have a new mail server.

Solaris 8 intel sendmail 8.12
I have quotas settup
I have uw imap and qpopper installed also

I am using procmail 3.22 as my mda. Mail is delivered to ~user/.mail

For most of the users we copied their mailbox (mailspool) file from the old server to the new server and placed the file in the home directory and fixed permissions on the file. File is owned my user in group of user. Permissions are rw user only.

For a few other accounts the .mail file was generated by procmail delivering mail. IF procmail was the first one to open .mail (if procmail actually created .mail) all is well. On the other accounts the mail is delivered but we get the

 Enforcing stricter permissions on ~user/.mail

message.

All files have exactly the same permissions. All ownerships are the same. If I erase a .mail and let procmail recreate it the account is "fixed". Is there some kind of locking that is tracked procmail somewhere or some other thing going on? I have seen this mentioned before bur never with a clear answer for my case. I hate to have to fix this by hand on thousands of accounts.

Thanks,

Andy
