multiple instances of procmail using almost all CPU time

2003-06-23 08:47:55
For some reason procmail keeps taking up a lot of CPU time. I'm not sure if
it's procmail itself, or spamassassin or what. Any ideas? The machine is a
Cobalt RAQ 550.

In maillog there are some errors that seems to affect procmail. I'm
relatively new at all this so bear with me.

Jun 23 10:31:20 www sendmail[2023]: h5NETKw02014: timeout waiting for input
from local during Draining Input
Jun 23 10:31:22 www sendmail[2027]: h5NETL702025: timeout waiting for input
from local during Draining Input

Also there are some of these :

Jun 23 10:58:11 www sendmail[4055]: h5NEwA204055:
to="|/usr/local/majordomo/wrapper resend -l nlack -C
/usr/local/majordomo/sites/site1/majordomo.cf 131-nlack-list, nobody",
ctladdr=<user(_at_)xxxxxxxxx(_dot_)com> (8/0), delay=00:00:01, xdelay=00:00:01,
mailer=prog, pri=31687, dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: prog mailer
(/usr/sbin/smrsh) exited with EX_TEMPFAIL

Here is a sample of what most messages are in mailq :

h5NF3w204556     1220 Mon Jun 23 11:03 admin
                 (Deferred: prog mailer (/usr/sbin/smrsh) exited with
EX_TEMPF)
                                       "|/usr/local/majordomo/wrapper
resend -l
h5NEwA204055     1668 Mon Jun 23 10:58 admin
                 (Deferred: prog mailer (/usr/sbin/smrsh) exited with
EX_TEMPF)
                                       "|/usr/local/majordomo/wrapper
resend -l
h5NEou203757      309 Mon Jun 23 10:50 admin
                 (Deferred: prog mailer (/usr/sbin/smrsh) exited with
EX_TEMPF)
                                       "|/usr/local/majordomo/wrapper
resend -l

Eventually the mailq fills up with 70+ messages and procmail keeps trying to
send until there are over 30 instances of procmail. For instance I rebooted
the server 25 minutes ago and already there are 7 instances running.

I'm using the following versions :

procmail v3.13.1 1999/04/05, Copyright (c) 1999, Stephen R. van den Berg

SpamAssassin version 2.53

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Terry
