Logging TO field

I was just asked this question by a co-worker, but I didnt know the
answer.

Q: "Is it possible to log the TO field?"


I tired it in my own rc file as a test:

LOG="
TO         --> $TO
TO         --> ${^TO}
TO         --> ^TO
"


But the log file gives me:

TO         -->
TO         --> TO}
TO         --> ^TO


Maybe I overlooked something in the man pages.
