Using Procmail to filter Spam, THEN return to Exim

2004-08-18 07:21:53

Hi Guys,

My MTA is Exim4 and i'm using procmail to filter my mails. Now i added some new mail users which are incredible newbies.
They are mostly using Squirrelmail or Mulberry to access the CYRUS IMAP Server.
The good thing about this is, that both of there access methods have great possibilities to create sieve filters.
So i thought : let's see if the user has a .procmailrc file and if he does, we filter by procmail, if not it'll be sieve.

Now the problem is i would love to use per-user settings in spamassassin. Integrating spamassassin into exim always involves
doing the filterin bevore the alias file was processed. this means no per-user settings, only global.

i was hoping that there is a way to pass an email to procmail, process it with spamassassin, deliver it to the Spambox if necessary and then pass it back to exim to be passed to the next router. WITHOUT removing the spamassassin header tags.

When i simply abort the procmail script with a RETURNCODE=75 oder any other number it will either claim delivery failed or put the mail into the retry queue where it waits for another procmail adventure. the tags added by procmail during there "failed" deliveries are lost.

thanks in advance,
wodan
