Re: bug in ^TO_ macro: character '+' *is* allowed in emails

2004-11-25 19:58:45
in fact, according to RFC 2822, many other bizare characters are theorically
allowed in email addresses.

The list in this RFC is:

atext = ALPHA / DIGIT / ; Any character except controls,
                        "!" / "#" / ; SP, and specials.
                        "$" / "%" / ; Used for atoms
                        "&" / "'" /
                        "*" / "+" /
                        "-" / "/" /
                        "=" / "?" /
                        "^" / "_" /
                        "`" / "{" /
                        "|" / "}" /
                        "~"

gosh!

I have never seen emails with !#$%&'*/=?^`{}|~ because all those characters
are also used by shells or are otherwise dangerous if not escaped in some
situation, and using those in an email address will most likely cause tons
of problems.

but I have seen emails containing '+' .
