Did you mean "echo" instead of "cat", since $VMDATE, $NL and $VMFROM are 
variables, not files?

See, that's what I get for working on it at 3am after spending the day
tearing my waterlogged office desk apart and pulling carpet. That would be
half the reason for getting a blank message -- and Ruud seems to have
pointed out the errors in my regex causing the "No Match on..". I'll make
changes and test in a few minutes. Have to finish trimming up my new
desk/workbench. Chose to build one of real wood rather than buy a $300
peice of pressboard garbage or spend $1000+ on a real wood desk that may
not fit the functionality I want.
