First of all, thanks to all the great folks that took the time to respond.
Gary, I have investigated dbmail @ www.dbmail.org. Apparently dbmail is a
drop in replacement for your MDA and will handle all of your delivered mail
in MySQL tables.
I plan on store the entire message in the database.

Just curious - what do you plan to store in the SQL database? Just the
metadata (From:, To:, Date: and so on), or the entire message body?
What about atachments? How will you index, and access the messages?
Perhaps there's an open-source solution that already does some of this?
