The log file gets the following messages:

to=<dougj(_at_)example(_dot_)com>,
orig_to=<dougj(_at_)ccs-example(_dot_)com>, relay=local,
delay=0, status=sent (delivered to command: /usr/bin/procmail
/etc/procmailrc)
Mar 29 23:51:42 mail postfix/local[4153]:
A28701A18AA: to=<hog(_at_)example(_dot_)com>, relay=local, delay=0,
status=bounced (can't create user output file)

Most of the time there is no problem and no message. The mail gets
through. There is plenty of disk space.

I found only one thing. The /var/spool/mail/hog was in group hog
instead of group users or group mail as the others were. But how could
that explain how only sometimes mail would fail?

Note that hog is sent mail via the postfix always_bcc = hog setting.

What does your /etc/procmailrc look like?
