Only errors about quotas:
Mar 27 00:32:40 mail kernel: VFS: Can't read quota structure for id 583.
Mar 27 06:10:56 mail kernel: VFS: Quota for id 596 referenced but not present.

Mar 27 07:08:23 mail kernel: VFS: Quota for id 597 referenced but not present.
But hog has none:
# quota hog
Disk quotas for user hog (uid 489): none

Do you see any interesting lines in /var/log/messages or
/var/log/secure or /var/*/syslog from Mar 29 23:51:42?

Most of the time there is no problem and no message. The mail gets
through. There is plenty of disk space.
I found only one thing. The /var/spool/mail/hog was in group hog
instead of group users or group mail as the others were. But how could
that explain how only sometimes mail would fail?
Note that hog is sent mail via the postfix always_bcc = hog setting.
