So http://1123638632/ will bring you to google.

I believe that stupidity only works in IE, no? Doesn't work in
Firefox or Safari.

In my Firefox it does. The dotted quad (with decimal octets) is just one
of the representations of an IP-number. Maybe it depends on policy
settings of your DNS.

IP address as a integer goes back to how Comer set up the TCB
structure. In the TCB it is an integer. The app converts whatever
human enterable value it gets to the integer form. So venerable PING,
not touched much since Chiappa wrote it first takes whatever you throw
at it. Yeah, I know these guys, I came along much later but have worked
with them and learned a lot about the IP skeletons!

But Procmail is getting headers from sendmail, and I think I recall that
Alman put in code to convert any interger to the dotted format (or a
FQDN) long ago, so I doubt I have to deal with an integer or even a
doted value with leading zeros.

Now IPv6 addresses are a different matter. You have to at least expect
the compressed formats.

Until last month, I have not personally done a sendmail config for some
10 years, and a bit has changed.
