Procmail problem with multiple interfaces?

2007-07-23 13:40:07
I'm new to the list so I apologize if this has been covered in the past.
I've tried looking at multiple PROCMAIL-related FAQs, a search of the
list archives, and Google. But I can't seem to come up with the magical
list of words that would result in something to help me fix my
problem...

As background, here is the relevant configuration information:

procmail v3.21 (2001/06/29)
RH Linux 7.2 (with some updates)
sendmail 8.11.6-27.72
Spamassassin 2.64

The mail server has multiple network interfaces: one Internet-facing
interface and five LAN interfaces (we have several internal subnets).

All user accounts are mounted via NFS on the local LAN. And, if it's of
any relevance, the NFS server has multiple LAN connections to all of our
local subnets as well.

This mail server with the above installation/configuration has been
running without a problem. However, it has been running with only two
interfaces active all this time, the Internet-facing interface and one
LAN interface. (And, yes, I do realize that this is a very aged server.
Please do not recommend upgrading unless it is the *only* resolution to
my problem!)

Today, as part of a larger project, we brought the mail server's
remaining LAN interfaces online. From a straight networking
perspective, this worked just fine. However, when we did this, we found
that we were getting what appeared to be multiple calls to PROCMAIL for
each message sent to any user.

I'm trying to figure out the cause of the problem. I'm not sure if this
is a PROCMAIL issue, an NFS issue, a firewall issue, or some combination
of these 3 plus something else.

Our final desired configuration (having all of the LAN interfaces on)
should work. But, I'm completely clueless as to why this particular
problem is cropping up.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
