How do they differ?
I've tested this sending a PNG attachment. When I use the formail line
the PNG gets corrupted. The _exact _same_ attachment PNG file doesn't
get corrupted when I omit the formail line. When I say corrupted I
mean I end up with only some of the PNG file. Odd, I know, but true.
Your write method is odd, and one I've never tested.
Try what Michelle posted:

* some_condition
{

|formail -A "X-PMERule: Pass thro to default"

}
or the simpler

|formail -A "X-PMERule: Pass thro to default"
:0
$DEFAULT
What you are doing is peculiar and you've not given a reason for why
you are you doing this this way.
