Yes, in some cases, using a script to generate SPF records are far
more reliable. In other cases, however, duplicating information is
far less reliable. It all depends on the tools that the domain owner
is using to maintain their zone file.
I think this is a case where SPF provides the right balance between
flexibility and costs. A single redirect isn't a large cost and it
will allow a significant number of domain owners to easily publish SPF
records with the tools they already use.
