Q: Who is the author (or "editor" as he credits himself) Alan DeKok

Alan DeKok is the owner http://www.striker.ottawa.on.ca/
To summaries the website, in 2001, some spambot apparently used a
dictionary attack on his domain and mistakenly thought that every
email address had succeeded. (He did not have any sort of wildcard
accept, only valid email addresses were accepted.) This resulted
in hundreds of thousands of spams per day being sent to his box.
The bandwidth needed to simply reject these messages via the MTA is
more than he has ever had. Soon, his spam volumes were such that he
could no longer send ICMP unreachable packets in response to TCP
connection attempts.
From that time on, his system has been somewhat of a "leading
indicator of what the spam problem will become". And, for this
reason, Alan has had a strong desire to stop spam.
