The documentation is a little light on the syntax of the exp modifier,
that allows the domain admin to provide a brief explanation of
SPF-related delivery failure in a TXT record.
Intuitively, it would seem that a "relative" domain-macro would be
sufficient, so in the records for example.com, "exp=SPFFAIL" would refer
to a TXT lookup of SPFFAIL.example.com.
Using the SPF tester at http://www.dnsstuff.com/pages/spf.htm suggests
that an "absolute" domain-macro is required, like "exp=SPFFAIL.example.com".
Is the DNS Stuff tester right in failing to look up "relative" macros?
What is the formal definition of the exp modifier?
Thanks!
