We know that djbdns limits TXT records to 127 characters, while AOL is
able to publish a 210 length TXT record. However, I have just learned
that TXT records can be a maximum of 255 characters due to a 1 byte
length field in the DNS packets. I just checked, and my bind9.2.3
rejects any TXT record over 255 characters.
Am I missing something? Are TXT records really limited to 255
characters?
I'm not sure if I see this as a huge problem, we *want* SPF records to
be short, but it does mean that AOL's SPF record is getting close to
the max.
