I already answered this for you, so here it is again:

I believe the Jury is still out on that one.

Instead, please elaborate on why you think SPF should be used
to check an intermediate hop.

Its not.  The confusion is caused as I stated by my message not showing
up on SPF-HELP and further compounded by Barracuda arriving at the same
conclusion that I did, probably because Matt appears to have a problem
understanding SPF just enough to cause problems coupled with the high
volume of confused individuals with misconceptions sometimes assumptions
are made too early.

You'll note that Matt's wording appears to have also confused the
Barracuda staff on this one...
