I think it comes out ok.
I looked at the link above with IE 6.0, and the figures have all the
spaces
squeezed out, same as in the mailing list. I tried <pre></pre> and it
doesn't help. These mailing list archive programs are really stingy with
spaces. :>( I guess than means no simple figures in the text.

OK. Looked again. I believe that what you are seeing is HTML collasping
multiple leading spaces. This is normal for HTML. Never mind about the
alternative archive being better.
