Am I dreaming or is almost all of the above still true? If so it
seems it took Internet only about 30 years to start practical work

Yes, but keep in mind that the bulk of those 30 years have been spent
on copious exchanges and debate in an effort to determine the exact
definitions and usage appropriateness for authorize vs. authenticate. ;-)
