If you were an automated process, rather than a human, would you have 
made out so well?

Probably not.  Bounces are notoriously hard for any sort of automated
process, there are just too many different forms and many of those
forms of bounces are badly broken.

On the other hand, a bounce caused by an SPF reject isn't any worse
than a bounce caused by the mail box being full, or the final MTA
being down, the forwarder being on a DNSBL because it forwards too
much spam, or even an accept-then-bounce by the original forwarder.


In the modern world of email, life for forwarders is hard.  SPF makes
things worse, but implementing SRS is easier than, say, keeping off
DNSBLs due to forwarding spam.
