Unless anybody has anything to add, I would suggest this
is correct. The key point here is that you are serialising
via a character stream. If at any future point you are
likely to send the result direct to a SAX handler or an
in-memory DOM tree, you will not get the result you expect!
Check out the FAQ and archives for lots of reasons why
d-o-e is bad.
