Since real life use of XHTML *requires* doctypes
Why?
Somehwat unfortunately the xhtml spec requires it but why does a browser
require it, they are not validating. In html mode some browsers use a
doctype to switch between conforming or "quirks" mode, but surely they
are not doing that for xhtml as well are they? xhtml shouldn't have to
deal with the legacy html incompatibilites.
