I tried using Xalan-Java version 2.6.0 and Saxon and it worked fine for me.
You might want to tell us a little background on what processor you are
using.
Thanks,
Vidya

Subject: [xsl] newline headaches in text output
Hello,
I am currently attempting to generate delimited text files from XML
source documents using XSL. When I perform the transformation I get
extra newlines at the beginning of the target document. I have read
through the FAQ and the topic: "text output method, and newline
problems", while relevant didn't provide me with a solution. I have
included a simple xml object and a simple xsl sheet. Any advice would
be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Adam
Stylesheet:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
version="1.0">
<xsl:strip-space elements="*"/>
<xsl:output method="text"/>
<xsl:template match="people">
<xsl:for-each select="person">
<xsl:text/><xsl:value-of
select="name"/><xsl:text>
</xsl:text>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
XML:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<people>
<person>
<name>A</name>
</person>
<person>
<name>B</name>
</person>
<person>
<name>C</name>
</person>
</people>
My result:
____File Begin___
A
B
C
