Hi,

My update.xml, source.xml and xslt are all in one folder.
So, I don't think there will be problem of variable is empty.

It looks like your update variable is empty does your styleshete have the
coirrect base URI so that the relative URI of update.xml finds the file?

<xsl:variable name="update" select="document('update.xml')"/>
