  unfortunately using asp.net I am bound to xslt version 1.0, as they
  will not implement version 2 even in the next version of their
  framework.


By "they" you presumably mean Microsoft? But surely using asp.net doesn't
lock you into using Microsoft software for *everything*? If it does,
shouldn't you be planing your escape now?
