I always use double quotes as well.

Grammatically, double quotes are always first in and last out.
According to my limited experience or programming language, I have
always used single quotes to delimit strings.

So, the single quote gig must have supporters that come from some
other context.

You can use " to delimit XPath strings.

I always use " for XML attribute delimters and then ' inside that
for
Xpath strings, some people prefer it the other way round, and some
mix
and match according to the phase of the moon.

select="'aaa'"
is the same as
select='"aaa"'
